With the fall season just a few weeks away, it’s tempting to start clearing out the summer wardrobe in anticipation of cooler weather. Trench coats, capes, kimonos, long cardigans and suede booties are all trending for fall fashion, but don’t overlook the power of layering when it comes to your favorite summer pieces that have the potential to transition into fall. Rich colors and floral prints will transition beautifully, like this Choies cocktail dress I wore. A sleeveless dress can span the seasons with the addition of a cover-up and/or a simple shoe and accessory swap out. The same goes for strapless dresses. And for your dressier shorts pull on a pair of opaque tights and pair with closed-toe pumps or sexy over-the-knee boots. Also, don’t store away your pop of color pants and tops…fall fashion isn’t restricted to warm, dark colors! Wear your pretty brights and tone them down with a black blazer or cardigan.
I shot a little fall transition lookbook showcasing one dress and how to effortlessly make it cool-weather ready. I started with a simple summer look and then swapped out the yellow heels and belt for red pumps and eventually a coordinating red blazer. It’s as simple as that…no need to overthink it! You could also transition a midi dress like this one into a skirt by adding a gingham button-down over top and tying it at the waist.
My dress is from an online store that is based in China. I have purchased a few beautiful dresses from similar online retailers for a steal, but let me forewarn you that sizing can be very tricky! Garments are not always true to size, so pay close attention to the size charts and read the customer reviews on the item if available. To be on the safe side, I recommend sizing up because you can always have it altered to fit. Shop a few of my favs for this season from the site here, here, and here. And a few more beauties from other sites here, here and here.
