DIY Vest + Midi Dress

I’m a sucker for a good vest…whether it be fur, camo, puffer style or anything in between! The layering options are endless with vests, especially in the fall and winter months. I’d even go as far to say owning a few good ones that are versatile in style is a wardrobe must-have!

The vest that I’m wearing was previously a jacket that I thrifted about a year ago but never wore because the sleeves were a bit oversized on me and I wasn’t crazy about the fit. I was staring at it in my closet one day recently, and thought to myself “What can I do to this that would make me wear it now?!” Well I had an aha moment and ran for the scissors. I carefully cut the sleeves off along the outside of the seams and…TA-DA I had a brand new trendy, unique vest to layer away with!

If you have a jacket that’s in “sitting mode” in your closet and you want to give it a shot start with a simple pair of dressmaker’s shears like these {click here}. Or, if you have a nice trench coat or long blazer take it to a seamstress and let them hem it neatly into a trench/blazer vest like herehere and here. Get creative to make instant wearable pieces and maximize your wardrobe at the same time!

I paired my camo vest with a berry purple midi dress from Forever 21. I’ve linked several great midi styles for you to shop hereherehere and here….they’re all under $20 and great for layering with outerwear this season! And of course I had to top it all off with a gorgeous pair of suede cutout booties that are actually Christian Louboutin lookalikes for a small fraction of the cost!
