Style Improv 101

When I shared in this post the other week about camo being a year-round wardrobe staple, I was clearly NOT kidding…#sorrynotsorry for being a repeat camo offender! This was a very improvised look because the original intent was to wear this ‘dress’ as the skirt it is, buuttttt it was too long {i’m a shorty; 5’2 to be exact!}. I stole a tip from my own Stylist book and got a little creative. I could’ve had it altered for the same cost as what I paid for it OR rock it as a tube dress with a sexy high slit {that I pinned right where I wanted it}!march4-2-(ZF-3079-62659-1-032)I encourage you to play around a bit in your closet with your dresses and skirts from season to season. Here’s a handful of switcheroo tips to help guide you on how to maximize the wear of your fav pieces!

  • Midi or maxi skirt to a dress (if the top hem lays awkward layer with a denim jacket or sleeveless vest in the summer months)
  • Short/mini tube dress to a skirt (this is great to do when those dresses get too short for your frame over the years!)
  • Sleeveless button-down dress to a vest (perfect transition of these typically summer pieces to winter/fall; play with belting also!)
  • Skirt to a top (A fitted tube top can be the perfect peek-a-boo piece layered under a jacket/vest and paired with high-waisted bottoms)
  • Tunic top to a dress (transition those summer-y tunics to light weekend dresses)

march4-4-(ZF-3079-62659-1-034)march4-9-(ZF-3079-62659-1-037)march4-5-(ZF-3079-62659-1-035)march4-1-(ZF-3079-62659-1-031)      Skirt (worn as a dress): Naked Wardrobe // DIY vest (thrifted) // Heels: Sole Society

Now go be creatively fierce babes!! 😉

  1. I love everything about this look and how you turned this skirt into a dress. And I’m with you when it comes to camouflage I wear it every chance I get. Great tips doll!
